Hole in road causes traffic diversion

Police have put a temporary closure on part of a South Shore road in Blackpool after a large hole appeared.

The deep sink hole opened up on Highfield Road, between the junctions of Abbey Road and Garton Avenue, before 4pm today.

The section between those two junctions has been closed off until tomorrow.

A Blackpool Council spokesman said the area had been made safe and United Utilities will fix the problem early on Friday morning.

Blackpool Transport’s no 5 bus has been diverted from some of its route.
