A PROLIFIC hoax caller was named and shamed during a documentary following the everyday lives of the emergency services.

Darren Green was jailed for eight weeks after he repeatedly called the fire service to imaginary blazes during Channel 4’s 999 What’s Your Emergency?

The serial hoax caller was put behind bars for making the 11 fake cries for help on Laidley’s Walk and Manor Road in Fleetwood.

Green also claimed a fire had been started in the town’s Aldi supermarket, as the controversial documentary followed Green from his first hoax calls to his arrest by police.

John Taylor, spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, told The Gazette: “The number of hoax calls has been dramatically reduced in recent years thanks to advances in telephone call tracing technology and the determined efforts by emergency services personnel to trace and convict offenders as is evident in the programme, which shows some outstanding work by fire and police officers to catch the culprit.”
