The Promenade in Blackpool was blocked northbound between the Chapel Street junction and the Talbot Road junction after a large plastic dome blew onto the road from a construction site.

It was removed this morning and the road was re-opened around 7am.

Lodge Lane in Elswick was blocked in both ways between Mill Lane and Hornby Lane because of a fallen tree.

A police spokesman said: “There have been a number of incidents across the Fylde coast due to high winds overnight.”

Police said there was also minor flooding on the Promenade as high winds whipped spray over the sea wall.

A car towing a caravan overturned on the M6 at Junction 30 at 5.10am. The motorway was closed for 30 minutes.

And at least 10 cars were involved in a car pile up on the M6 southbound around 7.30am this morning.
