THE body of a hero soldier killed by the Taliban will be repatriated today.

Sgt Nigel Coupe, from St Annes, was killed alongside five other soldiers when their armoured vehicle was destroyed by a bomb.

The bodies of Sgt Coupe, of the 1st Battalion Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, and his colleagues from the 3rd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, will be flown into RAF Brize Norton this afternoon.

The plane is expected to land at 1.30pm, before a family service.

A cortege will then leave Brize Norton at around 5.15pm, and should arrive at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford an hour later.

Sgt Coupe’s family have travelled to Brize Norton for the ceremony.
