AN EMOTIONAL journey which saw a Blackpool man reunited with his father is set to be played out into homes across the UK tonight.
Wayne Leyland, 49, lost touch with his dad when, as a seven-year-old living on Seed Street, in the town centre, he told him he never wanted to see him again.
But now more than 40 years later Mr Leyland has been reunited with dad Terry – after an appeal in The Gazette led him to ITV show Long Lost Family.
Mr Leyland, who now lives in Cleveleys, said: “It was asking if you had a long lost family member, and I did. I’ve been looking for him since I turned 18.
“We lost contact when I was seven. I was with my mum at the time and didn’t realise she prevented dad from seeing us.
“She kept telling us he didn’t want to see us. But when I turned 18 I realised everything I was told wasn’t as accurate.
I wanted to hear dad’s side of the story, I always felt an imbalance because I didn’t know him.”
Mr Leyland’s story is on ITV tonight at 9pm.
