Blackpool mum Heidi Clapham is set to show off her incredible kitchen skills tonight on national TV.
And if she was to win a top prize, it really would be the icing on the cake.
Heidi, of Bispham, will be appearing on Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas, with Kirstie Allsop on Channel 4.
Heidi was recently filmed for the show, which involved her and another three contestants decorating Christmas cakes for a competition, at Blenheim Palace, in Oxfordshire.
The winner will be announced this evening, so Heidi is not able to reveal too much about what the programme will include.
But the 38-year-old said: “I really enjoyed it, it was great fun.
“I’d never normally do this sort of thing, but I’d been poorly and in hospital at the time I saw it advertised and my partner told me I should apply.
“It’s not like me to put myself forward, but I just decided to give it a go.
“I had to fill in an application and send photos of my cakes and they replied and said they really liked them and would I available for filming.
“The brief was to decorate a round Christmas cake in four hours.
“They had really liked a cake I had created and sent a picture of – which was a balancing cake, so I decided to do that, but had to bring some of the other elements with me – it usually takes a whole day to make.
“I had to work quickly and with the film crew there too, it was added pressure!
“But the film crew was wonderful and Kirstie was absolutely lovely.
“She was so down-to-earth, really genuine, just as you’d imagine her to be when you see her on TV.
“There were four of us competing from all over the country – but I was the only one who does cake-decorating purely as a hobby.”
Over the years Heidi, who works full-time as a children’s home manager, has created a whole array of stunning and impressive cakes for family and friends – for birthdays, christenings, weddings and even the odd divorce!
And now she has decided to turn her hobby into a business to earn some extra cash.
She is launching her own cake business, called Sugarmoon Cakes.
Heidi, who has an 18-year-old son, has won award for her cakes in the past at trade fairs and baking contests.
She said: “People have always asked why I don’t do this to make a living – including the film crew and Kirstie, and I’ve always made cakes for family and friends, so I decided to make it into a business.
“I’ve just registered my kitchen with environmental health. I love making cakes – I like eating them too!
“I really enjoy creating something, I really love a challenge and anything a bit more difficult to create.
“The great thing about cakes is they tend to feature in happy occasions or moments of celebration in people’s lives – weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and so on.
“It’s really nice to share in that.”
