FYLDE coast medics have scooped two top national awards.

The End of Life Care team from Blackpool Teaching Hospitals was named winner in the Cancer Care category of the Care Integration Awards 2012, for work which led to a 41 per cent rise in patients spending their last days or hours in their preferred place.

The Knowing How We Are Doing project, which makes staff, patients and visitors aware of performance in key areas – such as the number of infections or falls happening on the wards, won the Data and Information Management category of the Patient Safety Awards 2012.

The awards are organised by the Health Service Journal and Nursing Times and it is the third year running the Blackpool trust has been successful.
