Two Fylde coast hospitals are organising some traditional treats for staff and elderly patients with a vintage twist.
Volunteers at Blackpool Victoria Hospital’s wards 25 and 26 and Clifton Hospital ward 11 have organised two vintage afternoon tea parties with cakes donated by local suppliers.
The two parties have been organised as part of the Blackpool Fairness Commission’s ‘100 Acts of Kindness’ campaign which aims to mobilise people in our communities to do something kind for each other. The Blackpool Victoria event takes place on November 6 and the Clifton party on November 11.
Jane Iceton from the voluntary services department at Blackpool Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We’re so excited for the vintage tea parties. The volunteers are so important to our work here at the Trust and I really can’t thank them enough for all their efforts.
“I’m sure the staff and the patients at both hospitals will really enjoy the parties and it will make their day.”
Dotty Delightful, owner of Blackpool’s newest vintage store based on Church Street, has played a major role in making the event possible and has provided lots of decorations to really give the events a vintage feel.
Entertainment in the form of a sing-along has been organised by Trust volunteer Yardi Shevlov and singer and volunteer, Val Gilicz.
There are currently more than 300 volunteers who regularly give up their time to support the Trust and the organisation is always on the look out for volunteers to give their time to support staff and patients across the Fylde coast.
Volunteer roles include helping patients find their way around the hospitals to ward helpers who spend time with patients helping to improve their experience as a patient.
