Close to 1,000 women enjoyed a girls’ night out with a difference on Blackpool Promenade.

They came together, wearing red glitzy T-shirts, feather boas, tiaras and flashing bunny ears, to raise money for Trinity Hospice in its annual Illumathon – a 10-mile women-only sponsored walk through the famous Illuminations.

The event on Saturday was officially started by Blackpool singer Linda Nolan - who recently lost her sister Bernie to cancer.

She told fellow walkers how the hospice had been invaluable for her and her family in their time of need.

She said: “Bernie spent a few weeks there when she was taken ill while on holiday in Blackpool. We couldn’t have asked for better care.

“They were amazing and allowed us to spend precious time with Bernie, which was really special.”
