The glitterazzi of Blackpool are supporting this year’s Santa Dash, which will boost funds for The Gazette’s Hospice Heroes appeal.

We need to raise £200,000 for a massive refurbishment at Trinity Hospice and Brian House children’s hospice, making them fit for the future, and this year the three kilometre dash along the Promenade - from Sandcastle to Central Pier and back - all proceeds are going to our campaign.

And today, we can reveal our new appeal total is £27,061.

Already signed up to the Santa Dash are Radio Wave’s breakfast team Hayley Kay and Ged Mills.

They’ve been sent their Santa suits, and they’ve even joined our Jam Jar Army - collecting small change in jars to count towards the total.

Ged said: “It’s very important to help the hospice and for the Fylde coast to get behind the campaign because you never know when you might need it.

“The Santa Dash is brilliant and it’s growing year by year - let’s make this the biggest year yet.”

Also taking part is former Blackpool FC player Ben Burgess.

He said: “It’s an important event for a place like Trinity. I have seen the good work they do at Trinity and Brian House and this is a good way to raise money at the same time as getting everyone in the Christmas spirit with the important element as well.

“I’m looking forward to taking part, it will be good. I’m sure the children will enjoy it as well.”

We want to make this year’s Dash, which takes place at 11am on Sunday December 1, the biggest in Lancashire.

Already more than 500 people have signed up to take part, but we want even more.

And even Fylde coast celebs who can’t make it on the day are urging those who can to take part.

Actress and model Charlotte Dawson said: “Good luck to everyone and it’s an amazing cause.

“I hope you raise lots of money.

“It’ll get you in the Christmas spirit as well so have a mulled wine waiting for you at the finish line.”

Comedian Keith Harris said: “It’s a very good cause and the more people that support it, the better it’s going to be for everybody.

“I’ve seen the coverage in The Gazette before and it always looks like good fun.”

Even The Gazette has assembled a sleigh of Santas for the event. You can sponsor us at www.justgiving.co.uk/GazetteHospiceHeroes.
