Have your say

You can keep your sweat and tears – we just want your blood!

That’s the message to local residents, who are being urged to consider becoming blood donors in a new national campaign.

This year’s National Blood Week has the theme, Know Blood, Give Blood, and is aimed at encouraging new and returning blood donors to sign up.

The past 10 years have seen a drop in the number of people who give blood regularly and with hospitals across England and North Wales needing around 7,000 units of blood every day NHS Blood and Transplant wants to encourage more donors to come forward.

Peter Hudson, clinical nurse specialist at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, said: “The fact we are living longer and medical treatments are becoming more advanced has added to the pressure on our blood supplies. We need more people to come forward.”
