Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP Paul Maynard said he has written to Assura after a number of people were handed tickets following the introduction of new parking enforcement cameras.

People using the disabled spots for more than 20 minutes now have to input their registration details on a machine at reception to get free parking – with some being caught out by the change in rules.

A ‘concerned’ Mr Maynard said: “While I understand the team at Moor Park have been most understanding and helpful in ensuring the majority of invoices are cancelled, I would question whether suitable arrangements are in place to support blue badge holders.”

Assura said the new system, which came after complaints some people couldn’t find parking spaces and gives everyone two hours’ free parking and up to three if they enter their details, ‘has seen a huge improvement’.

It said signs have gone up advising visitors of the changes, and said in a statement to The Gazette: “Where there has been confusion, we have cancelled tickets as we appreciate it takes time for a new system to bed in.”
