POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a Fylde coast man was killed in a crash on a Wyre road.

The incident happened at around 7pm on Friday on the A6 Preston to Lancaster road close to Fowler Hill Lane at Cabus.

A red BMW was travelling south when it collided with a white Volkswagen van.

The driver of the BMW, a 79-year-old man, from Garstang, received multiple injuries and later died at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

The van driver, a 24-year-old man, from Forton, did not receive any injuries but police said he was left shaken following the collision.

The road was closed for four hours to allow accident investigation to carry out an examination of the scene and police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Gareth Hill, from Lancashire Police’s road policing unit, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and witnessed what happened to come forward and contact the police.

“We’re still in the process of tracing the man’s next of kin but every effort is being made and we will have specially trained officers to support them through this difficult time.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Lancashire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
