Free health checks for over 40s are being offered as part of a new campaign.

Lancashire County Council is targeting residents between 40 and 74 with its Stay Healthy for Those You Love scheme.

It will encourage people to take up the offer of a free health check when offered by their GP.

Coun Azhar Ali, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “The check will take less than 20 minutes and will look at your lifestyle, weight, family medical history, cholesterol levels and blood pressure.”

Dr Adam Janjua, GP and vice-chair of NHS Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Major killers such as diabetes, heart, vascular and kidney diseases can be prevented by identifying a patient’s risk factors earlier on in life.

“The more people who have an NHS health check then the more lives we can potentially save.”
