Blackpool residents are being asked to come up with a name for the new access road to the mental health inpatient unit.

The Harbour, which is being built on Preston New Road, is set to be completed late this year, and ideas are needed for the main route into the state of the art unit, which is managed by Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Access will be from a newly created junction opposite the windmill.

Alistair Rose, project director at the Trust said: “Members of the public and local residents are likely to have a good understanding about the general location, history of the area and The Harbour site itself.

“The public assisted the Trust to determine the name of The Harbour and also the suite (ward) names and we would like to continue this support with suggestions for the name of the new access road.”

Entries can be submitted by via social media by using the Trust’s Twitter @LancashireCare or Facebook page www.facebook.com/LancashireCare. The closing date July 18 when a public vote will open.

Any names suggested that are the same as existing streets in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre area will be ruled out. The name should not be difficult to pronounce or have an awkward spelling, it should not be named after a person though consideration may be given to well known or local historical figures and names should reflect the history of the site.
