Hospital services are under the spotlight today as part of an awareness week.

As part of Health Action week the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will be promoting the work of health visitors, school nurses, neonatal nursing staff and reminding staff of patient safety.

Health visitors will visit children’s centres across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.

School nurse practitioners will be paying special visits to schools to give presentations and teach young people proper hand washing techniques.

Today the neonatal unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital will celebrate World Prematurity Day by projecting pictures of babies ‘then and now’ in
the main entrance of Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

This will be followed by a ‘little lights walk’ around the hospital starting from the main entrance at 5pm.

The Trust’s neonatal unit cares for around 400
babies each year.

On the same day staff around the Trust will be reminded of the key lessons around patient safety as part of the Patient Safety Week. The trust is also holding a day for students in years 9 11 and 12 to have a look inside the NHS and see what careers are open to them.
