A community cafe will be created inside the Fylde coast’s new mental health inpatient unit, The Harbour.

The cafe – a community hub for people to meet with friends, which will offer well-being advice including healthy eating and dementia – will be run by The Richmond Fellowship. The charity will work with colleges to provide apprenticeships and employment opportunities for people with experience of mental health issues.

The Harbour, being built on land near Whyndyke Farm in Blackpool, is due to open early next year.

Alistair Rose, project director for The Harbour, said: “The charity does outstanding work supporting people and we feel this partnership will provide a positive environment for people in the community to not only come and enjoy refreshments, but have an opportunity to work together to help reduce stigma around mental health.”
