A Blackpool care home has been rated outstanding – one of just 52 in the country to achieve the accolade.

Links Lodge, in Links Road, North Shore, was visited by Care Quality Commission inspectors with just 24 hours’ notice on December 23 last year – and were delighted with what they found.

The inspectors report stated: “People indicated that they were very happy with the care they received and that they enjoyed the care and companionship of staff very much.

“People’s relatives told us the registered provider, management and staff team were superb.

“They said they were extremely approachable, available and willing to listen.

“They said staff involved them in their family member’s lives at every opportunity and they felt part of an extended family.”

The staff are fantastic, couldn’t be better

One relative told inspectors: “The staff are fantastic, couldn’t be better.”

Another told them: “I wouldn’t want [family member] to live anywhere else. The care is excellent and the activities are amazing.”

The home was rated outstanding in four categories – effective, caring, responsive and well-led. It was rated good in the safe category.

The report puts the home in the top 0.52 per cent of homes in the country.

The report added: “People indicated that they were very happy with the care they received and that they enjoyed the care and companionship of staff very much. People’s relatives told us the registered provider, management and staff team were superb.”

“They said staff involved them in their family member’s lives at every opportunity and they felt part of an extended family.”

Staff were all trained in safeguarding and no safeguarding alerts had been raised about the service in the previous 12 months.

The report made no recommendations for improvement.

‘I’m delighted for the staff, managers and owners for ouststanding rating’

Coun Amy Cross, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for adult safeguarding, said: “This is fantastic news and I’m delighted for the staff, managers and owners at Links Lodge for this outstanding rating. This inspection report makes for excellent reading and backs up the feedback that we get from the home on a regular basis.

“For many people, putting their loved ones in a care home is a difficult decision, only made better when you see the quality of care and the dedication of the staff and managers on a daily basis.

“While this is the first outstanding care home in Blackpool, it is one of a long list of many that offer an excellent caring service to vulnerable adults.

“I would like to offer my congratulations to the manager and the staff at Links Lodge.”
