A FORMER Kirkham headteacher has been warned he faces prison after pleading guilty to making and distributing child pornography.

Peter Croft, 43, who was headteacher of The Willows RC Primary School admitted 15 charges of making indecent photographs and video clips of children in September last year.

The charges relate to several hundred images and cover levels one to five, with level five being the most serious images of child abuse available.

He also pleaded guilty to six charges of distributing indecent photographs of children in January last year.

The charges cover 130 images in total.

Sitting at Preston Crown Court Judge Simon Newell told Croft he would have to sign on the sex offenders register.

He also reminded him all sentencing options were open.

He said: “Having regard to the number of offences and the nature, there is likely to be an immediate custodial sentence”.

Croft, of Yew Tree Close, Chorley was headteacher at The Willows for 11 years before his arrest in September last year over allegations of possessing child pornography.

Police seized computer equipment from his home as part of their investigation.

He was charged 24 hours later with three offences relating to indecent pictures allegedly found on his home computer.

Croft wept at Chorley Magistrates Court in October as the charges were read out during a preliminary hearing.

He spoke only to confirm his name.

At a subsequent hearing, Police withdrew the initial charges were and 21 new counts were put forward.

Croft later resigned from his post.

Today Lancashire County Council confirmed he was no longer employed by the authority.
