POLICE were today quizzing three people after a stabbing and an armed robbery happened within half an hour on the same street in Fleetwood.
Officers were called to Poulton Road at around 2.20pm yesterday following reports a man had been stabbed in the chest and stomach.
An ambulance was sent to the scene and took the victim, believed to be 32-year-old John Rainey from Fleetwood, to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
He has serious - but not life-threatening - “puncture” wounds, police said. He is in a stable condition in hospital.
A 34-year-old man from Fleetwood was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a 39-year-old woman from Fleetwood was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to wound.
Both were arrested near the scene yesterday.
Just 30 minutes later terrified staff at Tesco Express on Poulton Road were held up by an armed robber .
The would-be robber burst into at 2.45pm armed with a hand gun.
Police say the man threatened staff before fleeing the store empty handed.
Three hours later a 31-year-old man was arrested by armed officers on suspicion of robbery.
A Lancashire Police spokesman confirmed: “A 32-year-old man was stabbed in the chest and stomach on Poulton Road in Fleetwood at 2.20pm yesterday.
“Half an hour later, in an unconnected incident, a man has entered Tesco Express on Poulton Road brandishing what is believed to be a handgun. He threatened staff before making off.
“Staff raised the alarm.
“A pre-planned arrest involving armed officers was carried out around 6pm and a 31-year-old man was arrested at an address in Fleetwood not too far from the scene.”
“We would appeal for anyone with information about these incidents to come forward and contact the police.”
