A HOTEL guest who assaulted a night porter was given a community sentence and told to pay him £50 compensation.

Dean Anthony Morris headbutted Jubal Anthony outside the New Ocean Hotel in Blackpool while “heavily in drink,” magistrates heard.

Morris, 28, appeared in court at Nuneaton for sentence after earlier admitting before Blackpool magistrates common assault on Mr Anthony on July 27. He was in breach of a conditional discharge.

Mark Lunt, prosecuting, said at around 2.30am Morris went to the hotel reception desk and told Mr Anthony he was not happy and wanted to speak to the manager.

The porter told him it was too late. While Mr Anthony was standing in the doorway, Morris “suddenly stepped forward and headbutted him.”

When interviewed, Morris said the porter had earlier been rude to him.

Self-employed Morris, of Old Hinckley Road, Nuneaton, had been given a 12-month conditional discharge in January for theft.

Morris told the court when he asked Mr Anthony for a drink “he slammed it down and it went on my T-shirt.

“I know what I did was wrong but he caused it in the first place.”

Magistrates revoked the conditional discharge and gave him a 12-month community order with 12 months supervision and 40 hours’ unpaid work. Morris was also told to pay £50 compensation and £80 costs.
