Eggs hatching, new born chicks and duckling nurseries. It can mean only one thing – the retirn of the popular Downy Duckling event at WWT Martin Mere.
All this week, through until Sunday, families have the chance to discover how ducklings develop inside an egg and break free from the shell into a young bird that they can meet while exploring the popular attraction’s duckling nursery.
Martin Mere marketing manager Victoria Fellowes says: “This is such a great time for the centre. Visitors can meet some of the cutest newborn ducklings, goslings and cygnets with special behind the scenes tours of the whole egg to duckling process. There are so many activities and some lovely spring walks in the wetlands.”
Activities include hearing and seeing ducklings inside eggs as they are lit up at different stages of development in the free candling workshops. Youngsters can marvel as they watch a duckling chip away at an egg and break free from the shell at the free egg to duckling experience. Visitors can walk around the nursery and see the cute sights of rare ducklings for free. There are also free guided walks and talks as well as a selection of family crafts.
WWT Martin Mere at Burscough, near Ormskirk, is open every day from 9.30am to 5.30pm and parking is free.
