The Gazette is delighted to announce the shortlisted nominations in the inaugural Education Awards 2011.

These awards were launched to celebrate primary and secondary education across Blackpool and the Fylde coast and we have been overwhelmed by the interest and response.

Sponsored by Blackpool and The Fylde College, the awards showcase and celebrate the very best students, teachers, schools and employees in the area. The campaign recognises the achievements that schools and pupils make within the education sector on a daily basis.

Gazette Editor David Helliwell said: “We’ve been delighted with the quality of award entries that have come through for this first time event. What we hadn’t anticipated is how moving and personal some of them would be.

“I think it’s fair to say all the judges have been touched by some of the entries and have found it very difficult to whittle them down to come up with shortlists.

“I’m sure the awards night itself will be a great occasion and everyone and every school that has been shortlisted should be very proud of their achievements.”

Our panel of judges had the difficult task of sifting through all the very worthy nominations and narrowing them down to the shortlists announced today.

The winners will be announced at the glittering awards presentation evening at the Barcelo Imperial Hotel, North Promenade, Blackpool, on November 29.
