Fylde biker dies in crash

A FYLDE biker has died after he was involved in a crash with a car.

The 49-year-old man from Freckleton was in collision with a Vauxhall Zafira while riding his Yamaha motorbike along Penwortham Way, Whitestake, near Preston, at 10.25pm yesterday.

A 64-year-old man from Ingol, Preston, who was the driver of the Vauxhall, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The crash happened at the junction of Penwortham Way and Chain House Lane.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “The motorcyclist and driver of the car were travelling in opposite directions when they collided at the junction.

“The motorcyclist suffered multiple injuries which proved fatal at the scene.

“The driver of the Vauxhall was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been bailed pending further inquiries.

“An investigation has now been launched and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.”

The road was closed for four and a half hours while accident investigators carried out inquiries.
