Free children’s tennis sessions are set to re-start in Blackpool this month.

The coaching sessions at South Shore Tennis Club, Midgeland Road, had been suspended after former coach John Cain left the area to pursue new interests.

A new coach, Peter Hamadi, has been appointed at South Shore and has agreed to take over the classes which are funded by Highfield councillors Lily Henderson and Peter Hunter using their ward budget.

They will start on Thursday February 23 in the indoor court, for seven to nine-year-olds between 4pm and 5pm, and for nine to 11-year-olds between 5pm and 6pm, before moving to Highfield Park for the summer.

Coun Henderson said: “We’re really pleased Peter has agreed to take over the sessions, and he is very enthusiastic.

“We’re looking for more children to come along and take part, and I would really like to get more children in Blackpool playing tennis.

“We are hoping to have a meeting with the Lawn Tennis Association about some initiatives in the town.”

Parents can either bring their children to the sessions or contact Coun Henderson on 403964.
