A GROUP calling for a moratorium on shale gas drilling has opened an information point.

Action group Residents Action on Fylde Fracking (RAFF) have set up home in Ansdell in a bid to provide a focal point for people wanting to find out more about controversial shale gas fracking.

Cuadrilla Resources is licenced for fracking in the area – although the practice is currently suspended after earthquakes last year – and has sites in Singleton, Weeton and Westby.

Fracking is the process of drilling into the earth and shooting high pressure water and chemicals underground to release shale gas.

The new RAFF information point is on Woodlands Road, next to Kelly’s newsagents, and is open every Thursday between 12pm and 2pm.

A spokesman for RAFF said: “We really need as many residents as possible to be a part of this important issue, join conversations with people at all levels of knowledge on the threat fracking poses to our community, and be part of this stand against that threat.”
