THE mother of four children killed in a tragic house blaze said she had “lost the lights of her life”.

Michelle Smith was celebrating her 36th birthday with friends at her home on Lytham Road, Freckleton, when a fire broke out in the area where her young children were asleep.

She was led to safety but firefighters carried four of her children – four-year-old twin girls Holly and Ella, brothers Jordan, aged two, and 19-year-old Reece – from the smoke logged property.

And despite desperate resuscitation attempts by emergency service workers and paramedics, who rushed the youngsters to Royal Preston Hospital, they later died.

Mourners flocked to the scene yesterday, many in tears, laying flowers in remembrance.

Mum Michelle was escorted back by police officers late yesterday and told reporters: “I have lost the lights of my life... where can I turn?”

Hundreds of tributes have been left on Reece Smith’s page on social networking website Facebook calling him “a true hero” after it is believed he remained in the property to try to save his younger siblings.
