PROMOTION fever swept through Fleetwood as the Cod Army reached the Football League - without even kicking a ball.

A DRAW between Wrexham and Grimsby meant promotion victory for Fleetwood Town, despite the club failing to tie up the championship at its Highbury Ground for the last two home games.

But thankfully, the champagne didn’t stay on ice long and cheers soon rang out in the streets and across the pubs in the town as news of the promotion sank in.

The Fylde coast now has two Football League sides for the first time in its history.

Red and white balloons hung proudly on homes close to Highbury and ecstatic fans celebrated the end of a glorious and historic season for the town.
