AROUND a dozen arrests were made and a town centre pub forced to close after Wigan Athletic, Sheffield United, Barnsley, Manchester United and Manchester City fans turned violent.
Police called in extra patrols to deal with the disturbance after rival fans clashed in Blackpool.
Trouble sparked at around 7pm in the Bank Hey Street area as the resort played host to boisterous supporters.
The Tower Lounge closed voluntarily for two hours until calm was restored.
Ambulances were called to the scene but no-one needed hospital treatment.
A spokesman for Blackpool Police said: “We have had fans in town from a number of teams and while by and large they were good humoured, trouble broke out at around 7pm.
“Around a dozen arrests were made and the licensee of the Tower Lounge voluntarily closed for two hours.
“Ambulances were called to the scene to treat minor wounds but no-one was taken to hospital.”
Wigan fans were in the town after their team played Blackpool, while Preston had played host to Sheffield United.
Meanwhile fans of Manchester United and Manchester City had watched their early evening FA Cup tie in the resort’s pubs.
