A FIREWORKS competition has been postponed for the second time in three weeks due to adverse weather conditions.

Organisers of the World Fireworks Championships event, which attracts around 60,000 spectators each week, took the decision to cancel tonight’s spectacular due to wind speeds in excess of 35mph being forecast.

Natalie Wyatt, Marketing Blackpool managing director, said: “While this is disappointing the health and safety of event organisers and members of the public is always our main concern.

“After meeting with all agencies involved in the event it was decided to cancel tonight’s performance as a precaution due to high winds.

“As you can imagine, the team at Marketing Blackpool is extremely upset this decision has had to be made.

“This year has certainly been challenging for the events team in particular given the unprecedented weather we have experienced nationally.

“We are still optimistic that France will be able to fire on Sunday to complete this year’s competition. Unfortunately, to enable this we have had to cancel Kimbolton’s display tonight.”
