Fire crews called to burst main

Crowds gathered as police set up roadblocks and a fire crew from Bispham used inflatable barriers to divert the water from two homes closest to the leak on North Drive just before 5pm on Saturday.

The road was closed between West Drive and Victoria Road West and United Utilities say engineers will be back at the scene on Monday to dig down and inspect the damage.

A spokesman said: “There is a leak in the wastewater sewer and until we dig down and inspect the pipes, we won’t known the full extent of the problem.”

A local residents who watched the activity on Saturday afternoon said: “There was a lot of water all over the road but the police and fire did a great job.”
