Residents can find out about how con artists work at a scams awareness event.

Blackpool council’s trading standards team are hosting sessions in Blackpool libraries to find out more about scams that are currently doing the rounds and to inform residents.

Anybody who wants to report a scam or find out more about ways to stay safe can visit the next event at Anchorsholme library between 10am and noon on Monday.

Latest scams include people phoning claiming to be from HMRC, saying there was an error with a tax return and the only way to avoid bailiffs is to pay over the phone.

Tim Coglan, Blackpool Council’s service manager for public protection, said: “People need to be extra vigilant and if you are in any doubt then hang up and call our advisers on 478375.”
