A Blackpool solicitor has become the first in the town to offer fixed-fee services to help less well off people have access to legal help for family issues.
Roland Robinsons and Fentons has launched the new package for divorce coincides with significant cuts to Legal Aid which came in this month.
It is feared that more than 80 per cent of clients previously eligible for Legal Aid will now lose out financially.
The service offers access to specialist divorce solicitors for a single low-cost fixed fee.
It includes all steps from initial instructions through to the conclusion of the divorce.
Robert Evans, partner at Roland Robinsons and Fentons, said: “This is a massive change for the legal sector.
“Such significant cuts to Legal Aid is controversial because the people with most to lose are the ones on low incomes.
Their divorce cases will be weakened because they will no longer be able to access free help and advice in preparing them.
“We hope that our fixed price legal services will soften the blow. It will allow clients to budget by minimising the chances of additional costs.
“And, at an emotional and stressful time, they’ll enjoy the peace of mind that comes with professional representation.”
With the new divorce package up and running, Roland Robinson and Fentons has also confirmed plans for more fixed price services for a wide range of legal advice.
