TWO friends on a mission to get fit, lose pounds, and raise pounds for charity set off from Blackpool Tower.
Mandy Wood and Lindsay Hart started off on their fund-raising scheme for charity Making Space with a combined weight of 34st.
But the pair have spent months training at Poulton YMCA and preparing to take part in a 614-mile trek and bike ride across five countries.
They started off walking and cycling from Blackpool Tower, then were heading to Holyhead in Wales, catching a ferry to Dublin, before walking and biking to Larne, Northern Ireland, boating to Troon in Scotland and then hiking and cycling down through the Lake District back to Blackpool.
Over the 45-day journey, they will raise money for Making Space, which helps people with learning difficulties, mental health problems and dementia. They should arrive back in Blackpool on July 3, at 4pm.
Family and friends were outside the Tower to wave the pair off.
Lindsay, 33, from Poulton, said: “We aim to prove getting fit is something anyone can do, and raise money for charity at the same time.”
