VIDEO: Festive cheer at Trinity

An extra helping of Christmas cheer was on the cards for staff, volunteers and patients at Trinity Hospice and Brian House children’s hospice.

Members of AKS’ school choir paid a visit to the hospice on Low Moor Road, Bispham, as part of their seasonal tour, performing a beautiful collection of festive songs.

The school’s director of music, Daniel Chandler, told the crowd: “We love performing for you; it’s the highlight of our musical calendar to be able to share our music with you.

“We work so hard to put this together because this is what we enjoy the most.”

The school’s girls’ choir and chamber choir performed in the hospice chapel for half an hour, singing old favourites including Away in a Manger, Winter Wonderland and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

They ended with an audience participation version of The 12 Days of Christmas, complete with actions led by Father Christmas and Trinity’s clinical director, Julie Huttley.

Mr Chandler said: “We’ve been coming to Trinity for the past five years to perform every December.

“It’s incredible coming here because we feel music has the power to heal and it has the power to speak to people.

“Our music moves the patients here.”

It was the first year the AKS choirs have performed at Trinity while improvement work is being carried out.

Builders from RP Tyson Construction are on site and have closed a huge part of Trinity and Brian House in preparation for the biggest refurbishment Trinity has seen in its 28-year history.

We are aiming to raise £200,000 through our Hospice Heroes campaign to help pay for the renovations alongside a £280,000 government grant. It will mean single rooms will be created as part of the work and furniture and fittings – most of them original – will be updated.

At Brian House the rooms will be made bigger to meet the changing needs of children who visit the hospice and the kitchen will be redesigned to allow older children to use it.

DETAILS OF HOW YOU CAN DONATE OR GET INVOLVED ARE LISTED ON OUR DEDICATED HOSPICE HEROES PAGE.
