AN historic Blackpool school is set to close its doors after it announced a shock merger with its local rival.
Arnold School will leave its Lytham Road home next year after it revealed it was to move to St Annes as part of a merger with King Edward and Queen Mary School (KEQMS).
The school, Blackpool’s oldest, has been teaching pupils on the South Shore site since 1901.
But, as of next September, 1,100 pupils from both schools will come together as part of the newly-formed Arnold KEQMS School (AKS).
It means all 700 of Arnold School’s pupils will transfer to the Clifton Drive South school site – though it is not yet clear what will happen to the historic school buildings.
