STUDENTS from a Fylde school were given the VIP treatment as they headed to the seat of power.
The youngsters from Carr Hill High School, Kirkham, got to see first hand how the country’s leaders work when they took part in a tour of Westminster which included watching a debate in the House of Commons.
The trip also gave the students the opportunity to learn about the process of Parliament during a workshop with Government workers at Portcullis House before meeting Fylde MP Mark Menzies.
Carr Hill Head Girl Laura Wickstead said: “I’ve been to Parliament before, but I’ve never seen a live debate. To see MPs in action was great. It gives you a real insight into how the country is being run.”
Fellow student Bob Stalker added: “It was interesting to witness first hand things you only ever read about in the newspapers or see on TV.”
Mr Menzies was put on the spot as students grilled him about his new career.
He said: “When you first visit Westminster it is fascinating and I’m very pleased we were able to welcome Carr Hill to give students this opportunity.”
