Students at Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College enjoyed exam success ahead of the opening of the school’s new sixth form.
From September, pupils in Years 12 and 13 will be based next door at the new Lytham Sixth Form College on the site of the former Blackpool and Fylde Ansdell campus in Church Road.
The partnership between Blackpool and The Fylde College and Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College will give students the chance to learn A-Levels or Level 3 Extended Diplomas, as a route through to university and graduate careers.
Fifty-one per cent of students this year passed A-Levels at A* to B grade, with a 98 per cent pass rate of A* to E.
Paul Staniforth, head of sixth form, said this year’s A-Level results had “gone really well.”
He added: “I am really pleased again.
“Across the board A-Level results are really strong. There are high pass rates across the board.
“We are particularly pleased with results in English, maths, science and history.
“We have had some outstanding performances from students, including Charlotte Rumley who earned two As and an A* and is going on to study psychology at York University.
“Lucie Glennon received an A* and two As and will be moving on to study medicine, while Emma Blackburn was given two A* grades and an A and will be moving on to study the history of art at York.
“The shift across to the neighbouring site is fantastic. We have outstanding vocational provision on offer.
“It is a college away from the school. We have spent a lot of money on it. It is what Lytham needs.”
Emma, 18, Cartmell Road, St Annes, who passed exams in art and design, media studies, English language and English Literature and maths, said she was “really happy with her results.”
She added: “It has been a long two years to get to this point. My family was really happy when I got my results and my mum nearly cried.”
Other high achievers included Jonathan Niblock, of Windle Close in South Shore, who is set for a role in journalism after winning a place at the University of Football Burnley.
The 18-year-old sends pictures to The Gazette from Fleetwood Town away matches and passed exams in business, media and IT.
He said: “It is very pleasing.
“I hope to work one day at a big club like Arsenal or Manchester United.”
