Pupils from St Nicholas’ Primary School, Common Edge Road, entertained visitors to the Winter Gardens this week as the venue threw open its doors for an access all areas backstage event to mark its 135th anniversary.

The event, held on Wednesday for locals and visitors, was aimed at showing off what really makes the famous old building tick.

The free of charge event saw people given a guided tour and information on all the different rooms in the building.

They also had the opportunity to tread the boards, visit the backstage dressing rooms and get up close to the historic Wurlitzer theatre organ.

The event was staged by Blackpool Council, Crown Entertainment Centres Ltd and The Winter Gardens Trust.

Visitors were also invited to share their memories of the Winter Gardens, a building which still boasts many of the original features from when it was first built.

The Trust said it also hoped the open day would reveal to the public some of the work it has been doing to maintain the upkeep of the historic building.
