Youngsters looking forward to starting secondary school in September have been getting used to ‘big school’ at a summer club.

The future Year Seven pupils at Blackpool’s newest school, Aspire Academy – the merged Bispham and Collegiate high schools – have taken part in a range of activities at the two-week club.

Led by youth workers, they have tried out soapstone carving, drama, circus skills, rapping, orienteering, African-style drumming and sports.

The group have also had sessions on how to be a good student, before making trips to the Tate art gallery, the Maritime Museum and International Slavery Museum, all in Liverpool, as well as Manchester Museum Of Science and Industry and Blackpool Zoo.
