OLYMPIC athlete Carl Myerscough had an important date before competing for Britain in the London Games.

He stopped off at his old school St Aidan’s, Preesall, to present trophies and certificates at the annual sports day.

He and former Olympic athlete Peter Warden took turns in handing out the prizes.

Myerscough will compete in the Games in the shot putt. He was a student at Saint Aidan’s until 1996, where he was taught by Sue Garvey.

Warden took part in the 1964 Olympics as a 400 metres hurdler, and has coached athletes of all levels for 50 years, from school-children to Olympic athletes.

Warden competed in this year’s Olympic torch relay and brought it into the school for students to see.
