A degree student from Blackpool and The Fylde College has landed a dream work placement at a luxury hotel.
Charlotte Baxter, 20, studying for a BA (Hons) in International Resort Tourism Management, will be the first student from the college to join the team at The Goring Hotel, an historic luxury hotel in London’s central Belgravia, famed for its independent style and modern British cuisine.
The opportunity came about after lecturers from Blackpool’s University Centre visited the hotel earlier this year to explore prospects for future collaboration.
In addition to offering a student a six-month work placement, the hotel agreed to provide guest lectures and an on-going dialogue with higher education staff, bringing contemporary issues for the sector into the classroom.
Charlotte said: “I’m really looking forward to it.
“I love London and The Goring is one of the finest luxury hotels there.
She added: “I think it’s important that we complete a work placement as part of the course as it provides us with experience, allows us to put our studies into practice and I believe it will help me to secure a job when I finish university.”
Beverley Heinze, lecturer in Hospitality Management at Blackpool and The Fylde College, said: “We’re all really pleased for Charlotte and the other students who have impressed employers at home and overseas.
“These are fantastic opportunities which will give our students the best possible starts to their careers. Our students have demonstrated that they can compete with the best in the world and are always complimented on their performance at interview.”
