Schoolchildren learned there’s more to French cuisine than just French fries, discovering the delights of more typical cuisine.

Aspire Academy, in Bispham, set up a French cafe in its modern foreign languages department, for Year Seven pupils.

Youngsters put into practice their newly-learned French phrases to order from the menu, which included croissants, crêpes, brioche, jus d’orange and chocolat chaud.

The pupils also took part in a variety of language activities, as staff worked to develop confidence in their speaking skills, as well as the cultural aspect and importance of learning other languages.
