A man lost control of his car and crashed into the back of a van after drinking double whiskies.

Joe Tomlinson, 20, of Ravenwood Avenue, South Shore, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He was disqualified from driving for 18 months and fined £110 with £50 costs and £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said Tomlinson lost control of his Vauxhall Corsa on Hodder Road, Poulton, and collided with the back of a Peugeot van on April 20 about 4am.

He told police he had drunk five to 10 double whiskies and mixers.

A breath test showed he was more than twice over the limit with 72 micrograms of alcohol in his body - 35 is the limit.

Tomlinson, who had no previous convictions, said: “I am completely ashamed.

“I did not intend to drive. It will never happen again.”
