A man who had a night drinking beer repeatedly kicked at a shop door in the early hours.

The cleaner at the shop asked him to stop and go away, but James McKiver carried on, a court heard.

McKiver, a 35-year-old sales assistant, of Ascot Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to causing damage.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £150 compensation, plus £85 costs and £15 victims surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Jim Mowbray, prosecuting, said a cleaner at Premier People, Birley Street, saw McKiver kicking at the shop door and smash a glass panel on February 13 at 3am.

Howard Green, defending, said McKiver had not drunk alcohol for some time, but on this night he started drinking at 12.20am and had about seven pints.

In the early hours he was drunk, and behaving in an irrational manner.
