A BUSINESSMAN today accused council bosses of “pettiness and dual standards” after he was ordered to tear down a 60ft wooden office building.

David Eyre of The Solution Automotive Ltd on Kirkham Road, Freckleton, says jobs will be lost after planning chiefs ruled the £45,000 structure on the site of his business must be removed.

The wooden cabin, which houses offices, was built in 2008 on the site of a dilapidated building on the premises.

But when Fylde Council officers visited last year, they ruled planning permission should have been sought for the structure.

In February, retrospective planning was refused and now, Mr Eyre, 59, says he has no choice but to tear the block down.

A spokesman for Fylde Council said the situation has been “entirely avoidable.”

He said: “This is a perfect example of why people should contact planners if they are considering making changes.

“Advice is free and should be sought in advance to stop this from happening. The building is on green belt land which must be protected for the people of Fylde.”
