A dog was rescued from a Lancashire house blaze which police and fire officers are treating as possible arson.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at a semi-detached house in Shakespeare Road, Fleetwood, on Saturday afternoon.

The house was unoccupied apart from a dog, which officers led to safety.

Firemen wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire, which caused major damage to the ground floor rooms and severe smoke damage to the upper floor.

Firefighters from Fleetwood and Bispham attended the scene and extinguished the blaze

Crew manager Kevin Warwick said the occupants were out at the time and the fire was believed to have started in the living room.

He said the cause was unknown and scenes of crime officers were investigating.
