A CLAMPDOWN has been launched to target dog owners failing to clear up after their pets.

Anyone who owns a dog is legally obliged to carry bags, clean up their dog’s waste and dispose of it in a bin.

And Wyre Council is now encouraging residents who spot people letting their dogs foul the pavements to report them.

A spokesman for the authority said: “It is illegal to fail to clean up after your dog in public areas and doing so can result in a fine of £50.

“Fines can be issued on the spot or afterwards if the offence is witnessed.

“Reporting incidents will help the council to be able to use their resources wisely in the fight to keep our public areas and streets clean.”

To report an incident of dog fouling or to report information which may stop offenders, call (01253) 891000.
