Disruption on roads to enable infrastructure projects to go ahead

Restrictions are set to be introduced on parts of Highfield Road and Midgeland Road to enable United Utilities to carry out improvements to underground pipework.

It means sections of the carriageway will be one-way only.

Meanwhile one lane of Progress Way is set to be closed from Monday, outbound on week days , to enable Kensington Developments to continue with its housing development on Moss House Road.

United Utilities said its work is due to begin at the end of the month. During the first phase, Midgeland Road will be open to north bound traffic only between Progress Way and Magnolia Way, while Highfield Road will be open to west bound traffic only between St Annes Road and Lowstead Place.

A spokesman said: “The new pipework is large and it involves a lot of digging and heavy machinery so there isn’t room for traffic to get past safely.

“We know there’s never a good time to carry out work like this and we’ve held a number of public exhibitions to explain about the work.

“Most of the people we’ve met say it will be good for Blackpool’s residents and visitors when we’ve finished.”

Ward councillor Andrew Stansfield said: “I have met with United Utilities who have assured me the carriageway will always remain open to enable one direction of travel, and hopefully there will be a good diversion route.”
