A restaurant is helping spread the spirit of Christmas by setting up a toy donation scheme.

West Coast Rock Cafe, on Abingdon Street, is working with The Gazette and Blackpool Council’s Give a Little – Help a Lot campaign for less fortunate families.

Owner Rob Wynne was asked by Blackpool Council deputy leader Fred Jackson to get involved,

Mr Wynne said: “The idea was to ask customers to bring in toys for children in exchange for a discount. They get a half price meal in January if they donate to us.

“It’s just at the West Coast Rock Cafe at the moment but one or two others are interested in joining us in the campaign.

“We’ve been running the scheme for a week now and we’re definitely encouraged by the amount of toys brought in. We’ve had lots of interest and we have set up a toy display behind the bar so people can see all the donations. It is all the stuff you would expect, like teddy bears and dolls.”

Donations towards the campaign can be made at the council offices at Corporation Street, Progress House on Clifton Road, Lee House on Plymouth Road, the Solaris Centre on New South Promenade, the Enterprise Centre on Lytham Road, and at The Gazette offices on Avroe Crescent.
